Prior to forming The Retail Group Australia Hannah King and Stephen Byrne had well over a decade of combined experience working for many of the country’s largest retail property funds including Mirvac, Vicinity (formerly Colonial), Scentre Group (formerly Westfield) as well as the Pacific Group of companies. This exposure has enabled the pair to work on many of the country’s largest retail assets in various conditions being static centre, stabilisation projects, remixing/positioning and leasing/development leasing. Now, with over 18 years of combined experience, it is widely acknowledged by both landlords and retailers that the The Retail Group Australia is a powerful and reliable business resource.
Our clients have benefitted by engaging us in at least one of the following services.
Retail Leasing
The company’s core project over the past four years has been Harbour Town Melbourne, now named ‘The District Docklands’. The Retail Group Australia was appointed as leasing managers shortly after AsheMorgan purchased this asset which has since undergone a total transformation.
The Retail Group Australia has been involved in all key aspects of ‘The District’ from creating the initial leasing strategy through to delivery and execution of the vision.
The project has had numerous challenges however, in partnership, AsheMorgan and The Retail Group Australia have achieved many significant milestones.
These include a successful leasing and delivery of two stages with a third stage, a new fresh food market and service precinct, opening later this year.
Some other key achievements include successfully rebranding and repositioning ‘The District’ and securing anchor tenants such as H&M, Uniqlo, Hoyts, Woolworths and Dan Murphy’s.
The Retail Group Australia continue to seek new opportunities to assist landlords in planning and maximising value in their retail assets across Australia.

Casual Leasing
The Retail Group Australia has specifically worked in the area of casual leasing for over eight years. Quite often this is the beginning of the journey for retailers looking to test the waters before committing to a long-term lease. It can also be an opportunity for brands to partner with a shopping centre for major marketing events, in a sponsorship-like manner.
The benefits of casual leasing include:
- Short–term leasing arrangements, with minimal risk;
- Access to high foot traffic areas to test consumers response to your products and/or services;
- Access to high foot traffic to promote and market your brand effectively;
There are many areas of casual leasing that go beyond the usual ‘site activations’. These can include:
- Digital screen displays;
- Branded billboards and banners (internal and external);
- Floor and door decals;
- Flyer distribution;
- Social media shout-outs;
- Valet parking sponsorship;
- Car park branding;
- Event sponsorship and branding;
These additions are best negotiated at the same time as a site activation and will bring as much awareness as possible to your brand.
At all times the goal of The Retail Group Australia is to maximise your brand exposure with minimal capital investment.
